Q. Where can I add locations of interest to be alerted upon?

A. The option My Locations of Interest allows the user to receive notifications for up to 10 defined locations.

  1. From your My Alerts home page, click My Locations of Interest.
  2. From here you would choose I would like to add a new location and then choose submit.
  3. Locations can be an address or an entire county or jurisdiction.

Some notification category types will allow additional locations of interest.  If you wish to select the entire state, please contact support@nyalert.gov to request this feature, as well as indicating what warnings you would like to receive.

Street - St.
Lane - Ln.
Avenue - Ave.
Road - Rd.
Place - Pl.
Court - Ct.

Q. Where can I select on a Map the best available Location?

A. After Typing in a location you have the ability to view the location on a map where this location is being represented at. You have the ability to move the point by choosing the Click for Point and clicking on the map to create a new custom location.

Q. How do I move around on the Modify Location on Map?

A. Clicking on the Pan Icon in the menu bar and then holding your left mouse down in the GIS Map view will move the map in the direction of your mouse. You can also click on the small white triangles surrounding the map to move the map in the direction of the triangle.

Q. How do I Zoom in or out on the Modify Location on Map?

A. Clicking on the Zoom In or Zoom Out Icon in the menu bar and then holding your left mouse down in the GIS Map view will allow you to draw a rectangle on the map of the area you wish to Zoom In or Zoom Out off. You may also click on the slider bar on the left hand side of the GIS Map view to also zoom in and out.
Q. How do I search for locations or places on the Modify Location on Map?

A. Clicking on the Search for Location and Find Place will reveal windows that allow you to search for locations and places loaded into NY-Alert. Clicking on the results in the Find Place will take you to that location on the GIS Map viewer.
